Hi Jim, Here's what I have told my fishing colleagues regarding your fly lines: This brown trout was caught in deeper, faster water using the brand new Jim Teeny “Chuck & Duck” fly line. It sure was enjoyable casting a super heavy fly line that sinks like a brick without using any split shot. The new line is sized for an 8wt fly rod and has an 8-foot tip with the equivalent grains of a 12wt. Now that fishing with lead is illegal in many locations this radical fast sinking line arrived just in time. I really like
sinking lines because, 1. There’s no plopping sound of split shot
hitting the water to spook fish, 2. The line stays straighter through
the drift without hinging or bending at the weight resulting in more
ability to feel a bite. 3. I can sweep through a long pool and keep the
fly on the bottom and in the strike zone longer, 4. Eliminates worries
of lead hitting my rod tip. 5. Casting is much smoother and enjoyable
resulting in the best fishing experience possible. There are more reasons
to mention, but simply, I used to fish floating lines for big browns
for years and it worked but given a choice I'll fish a full sink line
every time. There are a number of imitations of Teeny lines and most
likely there will be a knock off of the Chuck & Duck within a year.
I support and purchase Jim's products. ![]() |

Through the years I’ve met a lot of wonderful people and some truly great fisherman throughout the world. Frank Deveraux is one such person that guides on the Situk River in Alaska. In April 2004 I got to spend 5 days with Frank fishing for Steelhead and it was a real treat for me. For anyone that has ever fished with him, they would affirm that he knows the river and his fish. Frank strongly voiced his opinion that a line was truly needed to get down quickly in deeper water with a strong current. After working his home waters, I agreed and told him such a line will be made! This was just the push I needed to make our New “Chuck & Duck line! Frank and many of his customers were tired of fishing monofilament, split shot, slinkies and indicators. They all wanted to get back to fly fishing basics. The New “Teeny Chuck & Duck” now allows you to do just that. Thanks to Frank for pushing me along to make the time to do just that! Hence came the Chuck & Duck lines. These lines were developed out of necessity, when it's ever so important to get your fly down quickly without adding any type of lead or weight to your fly or leader. Many consider this line to be a major breakthrough for many fisheries. One should be warned that this line is not for everyone and is not a distance casting line. What this line does very well is roll cast and offers exceptional tip control because of the oversized floating section. The lines come in two sizes and two styles. The Heavy and the Magnum both have an 8 foot sinking tip. The SUPER Heavy & SUPER Magnum, both have a 12 foot sinking tip. They all have a rear section of floatiing line with our new “HPC” coating (high performance coating). These lines work best with a Fast Action Rod. If you should try to back cast once, it should be with an open loop and overhand forward cast, which is a lob type cast. With the right timing you will get good distance. If
you are looking for a great fishing adventure in Alaska, pick up one
of our Chuck & Duck
lines, give Frank a call and book a trip with him. Without question you
will learn a lot and have the experience of a lifetime! You
