After 5 days of windy, but successful Tarpon Fishing in the Keys I headed to the Bahamas. I planned to spend 4 days fishing with my good friend, Peter Cockwill, who was coming in from England to meet me. Peter was there hosting a group of British Anglers and we try to get together whenever possible. One of his clients had unfortunately passed away before the trip began. Without my knowledge he had called my Brother-in-law, Walker, and had him fill the spot. Walker brought his wife Carol along, so she could visit with her sister Donna, who is the lodge manager. This was a great surprise for me when I arrived at the lodge.
As usual, Donna had everything organized for our fishing days. I got in one day of fishing with Peter, Walker, and Peter's friend Roger. In my three days of fishing I caught some nice Bonefish, up to 7 pounds, in spite of the windy conditions. If you want to go fishing for some of the world's largest Bonefish this is the place! They have taken some in the 15 pound range.
We all fished with the Flip Pallot floating line, which is the best for warmer saltwater. I used a flats fly that I have been using since '95. It is similar in design to the "Gotcha", which is a lodge favorite. I tie mine with our ginger feathers and put chain eyes on the butt section. I use a pale pink thread and crystal flash in pearl to complete the pattern. It is deadly! I have taken Tarpon, Bonefish, Shark, Permit, and Barracuda all on this one pattern in varying sizes.
In 2002 we are booking the lodge from May 18-25th. For 7 nights and 6 days of fishing, I believe the cost will be about $2400 per person, based on a double occupancy. It is the prime time to be there and if you have an interest please contact me. I am sure these spots will not last long. The lodge number is 242-368-5200 or 242-368-5167. To contact me directly about the trip call 800-501-6602.
