Donna and I just got back from La Paz, Mexico with Gary Graham, owner and operator of "Baja On The Fly." We had a great trip and enjoyed catching some nice Rooster Fish. Our guide, along with Gary, was a nice man named Chris who spent lot of time cruising the beaches looking for Rooster Fish. I really learned a lot from this trip as it was my first trip to Mexico.
Chris and Gary shared with me what works on the Rooster Fish. I tied similar patterns using our ever famous ringed neck pheasant tail feathers. Ginger was our best color, size #6, #4, and #2 with a green and white top with crystal flash, and strip as fast as you can. Sometimes bringing the fly back with erratic action brought major strikes. Donna and I also caught Jacks, Mackerel, and Needlefish. The resort was very nice and the food and water great! The Buena Vista Hotel is where we were at. The weather was in the 90's and really warm. Fishing for Billfish was a little slow and we spent our time chasing Roosterfish. This is a really good trip and the operation knows their stuff.
