... the trout and salmon fisherman contrives to make a virtue, a fetish even,
of this habitual scarcity, if not entire famine, of catchable fish.

Bar Z X Ranch, Colorado - May/June 2000

In all of my travels I don't think I've ever been to a more beautiful place. The BarZX Ranch is located in Colorado about a half hour from the small town of Paonia. This last trip I traveled with my friends Jeff Mark, Lee Carrico, Walker Hughes, and Michael Shaheen. We had three days of fly fishing under fairly tough conditions as the weather was setting record highs day after day. Also, the wind was calm and the bigger trout seemed to have gotten a lot smarter! We all still caught very nice fish up to 8 pounds and lost a few larger ones that broke are leaders. Sixteen spring fed lakes and a variety of different trout add to the excitement. Brown trout, brook trout, cutthroat, rainbows, and cutt/bows, the possibilities are awesome. A fly rod of 4 to 6 weight is just right for these extremely strong fish. All were good fighters which adds to the fun. The Teeny mini tip line again was our favorite. Teeny nymphs and leeches in sizes 4 to 14 worked well in ginger, gold, insect green, natural, and black. Contact Dean Lampton at 970-929-6591. His wife Kathy is a great lady and a wonderful cook!
