I don't WANT to catch fish, I felt like shouting. I can't. I am a prisoner
hemmed in by walls of trees and branches. The long rod does not want
to work in these conditions. I am hot and I look stupid.

Santiago, Chile, November 1999

In late November I headed down to Chile to travel and do some slide presentations and casting instruction. During my travels my friends made sure I got in some fishing time. Marc Whittaker of Del Norte Outdoors is the exclusive distributor of Teeny products in Chile, and he put together my schedule. Chile is an incredibly beautiful country. Gonzalo Cortes owns the Fly Shop in Santiago, a very nice and well stocked shop. He put together a few of my days on Lago Yelcho River at the Isla Monita Lodge. This lodge is managed by people that I have known from previous trips to Alaska.

I didn't get a lot of fishing time while I was there, but I did catch some very nice browns and rainbows, up to the 22 inch mark. They were nice looking fish and very strong fighters. I met some very nice people while I was there and enjoyed their summer weather! The temperatures during the day were in the 80's and 90's. I will be heading back to Chile in the spring and look forward to writing about the monster Sea Run Brown Trout I plan to catch!
