An old phrase evokes the fly fisher's spring: the sweet of the year.
R. Palmer Baker "The Sweet of the Year" (1965)

Douglas Lake Ranch, BC, Canada June 2000

It has been a few years since I've had the opportunity to fish the ranch and I was really looking forward to the great experience. We headed up from Gresham, Oregon which is just East of Portland, and about a 9 hour drive from the ranch. We made a stop in Abbottsfore, BC at Hub Sports so I could touch base with my good friend Roger Dornan, Roger made the trip up with me so that we could spend some time fishing together. Our basic plan was to fish Minnie Stoney Lakes which have long been famous for their large rainbows.

On this trip we all caught quality Rainbows up to 4 pounds which were pound for pound excellent fighters. We did a little shoreline fishing, float tubing and also some from their aluminum boats at Stoney. Our lodging was at Stoney Lake Lodge which is as nice a lodge as you can possible find. Food and accommodations are top notch. The fish are going through a cycle and by this fall there should be lots of 5 and 6 pounders for catch and release. This is a place one should not miss if the opportunity arises. Contact Douglas Lake Ranch at 1-800-663-4838 or visit them on the web at www.douglaslake.com
