That is winter steelheading: long hours of cold, interminable work,
punctuated with breathless moments of excitement.

Dave Duncan & Sons Base Camp, Alaska - June 2003

June 28th I headed up to Alaska to fish with Dave Duncan and Sons for my 21st year on the trip and rivers. The Duncan's run a great outfit and I look forward to each and every season.

Big Chrome Kings, Chums and Sockeyes are the norm. Many fish are packing sea lice fresh from the ocean. Mini-Tips, T-Series and TS-Series again proved to the best choice of lines for the anglers.

Best colors were the Hot Pink, Hot Green, Flame Orange, Chili, Ginger and Black. Best sizes were #2, 4 & 6 in the Nymphs.

The Teeny Egg Sucking Leeches, Flash Flies and our new Sparkle Nymphs and Leeches in colors of Chili, Hot Green, Flame Orange and Black were the best colors. We used the Mini-Tip and dead drifted the fly.

Next season I head up to the Base Camp on the 26th of June and stay for two weeks as I normally do. If you would like to fit into one of my weeks call me at (800) 501-6602 or e-mail me at info@jimteeny.com and I will try to book you into one of my two weeks. It is truly the trip of a life time!
