Choosen River
This marked my 20th year in a row with Dave Duncan and Sons on the Choosen River. If I had to sum it up, I would have to honestly say that the fishing was as good as I've seen it in the past 20 years. The Kings were very aggressive and chrome bright with sea lice.
As luck would have it in my first 10 days of fishing I landed and released 74 Kings up to 37 pounds by length and girth. The Chum Salmon were exceptional as were the Sockeye Salmon. When the conditions were right, we could catch Kings on our Mini-Tip line! No weight, just the sinking tip of 5 feet was all it took. Slow, dead drifting with the current and the takes were as aggressive as I've ever seen.
Chums always are good biters and we figured out the sockeyes in certain waters. Shorter leaders of 4 feet were the norm, but I actually went up to 6 feet when using the Mini-tip for Kings. Our best colors were Hot Pink, Black, Ginger, Hot Green, Flame Orange, and Purple. Both styles, nymphs and leeches in sizes #2 and #4. Most all of our Flash fly color combo's worked well. Purple/Black, Orange/Black, Ginger/Black, Orange/Ginger, and Orange/Hot Green. Everyone during the two weeks I fished said this trip was as good as it gets.
