June 29th I headed up to the Duncan Base Camp on the Chosen River. Brad Duncan manages the Base Camp and it marked my 21st year in a row!
The water was low and clear so the fish were a little more careful about taking your fly. This was mostly directed to the King Salmon that were in the river. We did very well considering the water conditions.
My friend Rodger Glaspey hooked and landed a beautiful chrome bright male King. This fish was only 43" long with a 27" girth, also sporting sea lice with tails. With the formula (length X girth X girth divided by .775) that comes out close to 40.5lbs.
All of our group caught trophy Chum Salmon and Sockeye Salmon. Chums over 16lbs. and Sockeyes over 12lbs. were our largest. Most fish were Chrome Bright with Sea Lice, fresh from the Ocean!
This trip is what Alaska is all about. If you are interested in this trip for next year please contact me at (800) 501-6602 and I will be happy to give you the information! Because of repeat customers spaces are limited so it is important to get booked early.
