On a recent business trip to the Great Lakes area, with my rep and friend Dave Halblom, I had the chance to fish for a day on the Pere Marquette River in Michigan. We managed to land a few Steelhead and Trout but found the river fairly low and clear.
Many of the guides in the area were praying for some rain to bring new fish in. I also spent some time in Ohio and did some fishing on the Grand and Conneault Rivers, with moderate success. The ginger Teeny nymphs were the fly to have in sizes #4 and #6. We used the Mini Tip and our T-200 with the best results.
Greg Voss from the North Coast Fly Fishers hosted us along with his friend Chris Bamford. They were kind enough to share some of their favorite waters.
If you are headed to the Great Lakes area and hope to get out fishing, contact John Bueter at Bueter's Outdoors, Kelly Galloup at The Troutsman, or Glen Blackwood at The Great Lakes Fly Fishing Company. All are good guides and know the waters very well.
