Fort William Ranch
May 30th I flew into Salt Lake City to meet my rep Russ Eckardt. We called on some accounts in his territory and then headed to Wyoming. We spent a day fishing at Fort William Ranch. We fished with the owner Mike and his assistant Lori. I had met them at the Denver ISE Sport Show last season. They took us to three different lakes and we all caught some nice Rainbow and Brown Trout. Mike also landed a nice brook trout.
The largest Rainbow we landed was about 12 pounds. We had a terrific day. This is a beautiful place to go with friends or family. Mike and Lori are both really nice people, and the lodge has a lot to offer. They offer float trips on several rivers and trophy lake trout. One package they have has really peaked my interest. It is an opportunity to pack into the high country on horseback for Goldens.
On this trip I used mostly our Mini Tip line in a #4. It matched up well on my 4wt. Jim Teeny Signature Rod from Lamiglas. These rods cast exceptionally and are easy to fish with. Russ used our new Teeny Freshwater Invisi-Tip line. This line has a 3 foot clear, intermediate sink tip. It was designed after we had requests by British Columbia fly fishers to make a line that would stay up close to the surface, for when fish were feeding near the top. This line works really well in shallow, weed filled waters. The line allows you to retrieve your fly slowly, and at times this can be very important. Russ landed some nice Browns and Rainbows with this new line. The largest one was a solid 8 pounds!
